The Serendipity Journal was inspired by my love of notebooks and my own journey of self discovery. The design combines traditional notebook pages as well as little prompts scattered throughout to help you take time for yourself. The prompts make you stop and think and ask the questions that we sometimes forget to ask ourselves. All of the themes I have used in the journals have helped me in some way over the past couple of years (full story at the bottom of the page).
The Serendipity Journal is A5 and has 90 lined pages in total throughout the journal (180 sides), together with 15 double spreads, each one with a different theme and question. These are contained within the 7 card sections that are spaced evenly throughout.
Each journal is spiral bound with fabric covers and there is a small pocket on the inside of each cover. If you are giving this journal as a gift there is a little card in the inside pocket of the front cover for you to write a message.
The Secret Serendipity Journal has the same fifteen themes and questions as the main Serendipity Journal but the sections are hidden among the main pages so it has more of a notebook feel. There are a few more lined pages in this version, 105 pages (210 sides), plus 15 double page spread theme pages. Each journal is made by hand and spiral bound with fabric covers, front and back. There is also a small pocket on the inside of each cover and the front cover contains a little card for you to write a message if the journal is going to be a gift.
I make, print and bind each journal myself. I take great pride in my work and wouldn’t send anything out that I wouldn’t be happy to receive myself. As each journal is made by hand and not mass produced, you may find a few little imperfections along the way which is part of the ‘perfectly imperfect’ charm of a handmade journal.
This journal will be shipped via Royal Mail small parcel signed for service within the UK. Please note that these books are fairly heavy and if you purchase more than one the postage will increase, although any overcharges on postage will be refunded.
All of the Serendipity Journals are ready to ship. However, if you would like one made in a particular colour or theme then please email me and I will be happy to discuss your requirements with you.
I have always loved notebooks and have collected quite a few over the years, so it was really only a matter of time before I started making my own. I got the inspiration for the Serendipity Journal after my own journey of self discovery, which happened completely by accident.
It all started in 2017… that was a pretty stressful year and by the end of it I was drained. I was always so busy doing things for others that I had neglected to take care of myself and my health was suffering because of it.
At the beginning of 2018 I decided to change. I set aside a little time every night to think about my day and found a quote, phrase or song that summed up my day. I began to do the things that I had put off and first on the list was decluttering – it’s amazing what you accumulate over the years. I found it to be very therapeutic and it not only cleared the material things but it helped to clear my mind too. I rediscovered my passions and my love of music – it has always been there but I was reminded just how much music means to me and how it has always been the one thing that feeds my soul. I found clarity, stepped out of my comfort zone and very slowly began to see a glimpse of the girl I used to be. At the end of the year when I looked back on my daily quotes I realised that I finished 2018 a lot better than I started.
I continued with the quotes in 2019 and if I’m honest I probably didn’t take as much time out for myself as I should have, however, that was the year that I built this website, so not all was lost! Towards the end of 2019 after a busy run up to Christmas I felt drained. I worked a little bit longer than I should have and I’m still not sure how Christmas came together as up until the 20th December, I hadn’t done any Christmas preparations or shopping! I closed my etsy shop for Christmas, took a couple of weeks off and did absolutely nothing apart from resting, spending time with my family and watching Christmas films. It did me the world of good and helped me to refocus. Soon enough the inspiration started to flow, which is how this book finally came together.
When I was trying to find a name for the journal I had a few things in mind but realised that serendipity (finding something beautiful without looking for it) was perfect – such a beautiful word, which really sums up the past few years. I never set out on a journey of self discovery, it just happened, but I am so very grateful as I have learnt so much about myself and all of the themes in this journal have helped me in some way.
